Detailed description

maximum six pages (PDF attachment)

Using the three headings below, describe the proposed research in enough detail to allow informed assessment by committee members:

  • Objectives

  • Context (including literature review and theoretical approach)

  • Methodology

Your detailed description must address the Challenge and Feasibility evaluation criteria list under Evaluation and Adjudication in the funding opportunity description, except for those criteria addressed in the remaining sections of the application.

Contingency plans related to the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on your research project may be described in this section, if appropriate. This is not mandatory, but it may assist the merit review committee in assessing the feasibility of your proposal if your research plans are significantly disrupted (e.g., if international travel is not possible).

STRATEGIC ADVICE

Justify the originality and significance (social, economic, cultural, intellectual, etc.) of the project, clearly and precisely state the goals and objectives, and ensure your methodology/approach makes sense in terms of the objective and personnel involved.

The Objectives section of the Detailed Description is typically the shortest, usually around one page long. The lengths of the Context and Methodology section can differ depending on the project, and the committee being applied to.

Consider making good use of white space in this section, and sub-headings that are relevant to your project (in addition to the required main headings) to help orient your reader.
