Describe your research team, previous output, and student training, using the following subtitles in the same order:
A. Description of the research team (if applicable). Clearly explain:
INSTRUCTIONS
- Why a team approach is appropriate for the proposed research by describing the relative roles, responsibilities and contributions of the applicant, each co-applicant, and each collaborator;
- The relative proportion (in percentages) of each team member’s contribution to the proposed research;
- The proportion of time to be spent on this research project in relation to any other ongoing research projects or program (exclude prospective grants); and
- If the project involves community participants such as knowledge users, the support provided by the community and the applicant’s ties with said community.
Note: If the adjudication committee determines that the applicant is not responsible for, or equipped to exercise, the leadership of the research team, the Feasibility score may be lowered.
STRATEGIC ADVICE
Keep in mind that Collaborators (even academic ones), do not upload a Research Contributions module. Therefore, this section of your IG proposal is one of the only places to provide the committee with information on Collaborator capacity.
Consider governance structure and decision-making processes (where applicable).
If you are proposing a project without team members (no co-applicants or collaborators), consider using this section to (briefly) reiterate the key PI responsibilities (including student training and knowledge mobilization), and that you have the expertise to carry them out.
B. Description of previous and ongoing research results
INSTRUCTIONS
Summarize the results of your most recent and ongoing research. Where appropriate, indicate the relevance of each to the proposed research. In the case of team research, include summaries for any relevant projects undertaken by co-applicants.
STRATEGIC ADVICE
Describe how you are building on your previous track record, and how previous research has led to your current research question(s).

C. Description of proposed student training strategies
INSTRUCTIONS
Clearly describe the specific roles and responsibilities of students and research assistant, and indicate the duties, especially with respect to research, that they will be undertaking as well as how these will complement their academic training.
Consult the Guidelines for Effective Research Training in preparing this section of the application. These guidelines will also be provided to reviewers.
STRATEGIC ADVICE
While it may be beneficial to begin this section with a brief description of your overall student training philosophy, be sure to move quite quickly into a specific description of student involvement in the proposed project. It is not enough to say students will be involved in “research activities” – which ones? How will these tasks/responsibilities complement coursework/other training opportunities?
Ensure that contributions and tasks are appropriate for the academic level of participating students (undergrad vs. masters vs. PhD vs PDF)
Ensure that by the time your reviewers reach your budget justification, any request for student funding has been sufficiently justified in this section. In your budget, remind reviewers of what they have already read (consider using a phase like “see student training plan” in brackets).
